On 05 August 2026, the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) led by President Gerald Chan paid a courtesy visit to FSupt. Jacky L. Ngina, Fire Marshal of Caloocan City, as part of its continuous efforts to support the Bureau of Fire Protection in delivering better services to the people.
The following officers also attended the courtesy call, namely: Paul Yeung, Executive Vice President; Willy Chuakimtong, Vice President; Gregorio Lagamayo, Director; Benito Uy, Director; Peter Chua, Young Entrepreneurs Committee Vice Chairman; Robert Ong Jr., Organization Committee Vice Chairman; and Corina Lagamayo, Member.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the progress of CFBCI’s ongoing partnerships with BFP across various local government units. Updates were shared on CFBCI’s proposed donation of computer units to the Valenzuela City Fire Station, the development of the Navotas Fish Port Fire Station for Marine Fire Search and Rescue, and the renovation of Galas Fire Substation in Quezon City. These initiatives reflect CFBCI’s continuing commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of the BFP and enhancing public safety through meaningful public-private collaboration.
President Chan also expressed CFBCI’s support for the completion of the construction of Caloocan City Fire Station, recognizing the importance of expanding fire protection infrastructure in rapidly growing urban communities. Furthermore, CFBCI commended the reforms introduced under the leadership of BFP Officer-in-Charge FCSupt. Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu, particularly the implementation of electronic processing systems, the expanded use of body-worn cameras, and the dismissal of fire inspectors in Metro Manila on March 31, in a bid to crack down on corruption in the agency. CFBCI recognized these initiatives as significant steps toward modernizing the Bureau and strengthening public trust in its operations.
Overall, the courtesy visit also provided an opportunity to discuss concerns raised by the business sector regarding fire safety compliance. CFBCI emphasized the importance of practical and collaborative approaches that encourage establishments to gradually complete compliance requirements while ensuring that minimum fire safety standards are observed, particularly for businesses handling hazardous materials.
CFBCI likewise underscored the value of continuous consultations between the BFP and stakeholders to promote ease of doing business without compromising public safety, reaffirming its commitment to working closely with the Bureau in advancing fire prevention and community resilience.
