On March 26, 2024, at 10 o’clock in the morning, the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) visited the main office of the Bureau of Immigration in Intramuros, Manila for a courtesy meeting with its Commissioner, Atty. Norman G. Tansingco. On behalf of CFBCI, Vice President Paul Yeung, Director William Rogando, Vice Chairman Atty. Kesterson Kua, Vice Chairman Jimmy Ang, Vice Chairman Stella Lim, Plenary Member Sheryl Tiu, and Public Affairs Officer Mexica Bausa attended the meeting with utmost enthusiasm.
Ms. Bausa has introduced CFBCI officers and members individually to formally start the meeting, and the Commissioner has expressed great interest In their respective industries. Along with the Commissioner sat Atty. Romain Pascual, the Chief of Staff of the Bureau of Immigration.
Afterwards, the Commissioner began talking about the recent developments in the Bureau, including the Proposed New Immigration Modernization Act which will be hopefully passed soon, and the increase in the total number of aliens applying for residency in the Philippines. According to the Commissioner, the new Modernization Act will be more detailed than its 1940 predecessor, and entail a comprehensive list of functions and power distribution within the Bureau.
The Commissioner is optimistic that by modernizing immigration services and reducing person-to-person contact, corruption cases will be reduced and immigration compliance will be facilitated better. Mr. Yeung agreed with the Commissioner and added that the implementation of such legislation will vastly improve the performance of the Bureau thus positively affecting the national economy. Mr. Rogando seconded such statement, adding “the Bureau can do it one step at a time.”
Hearing such words made the Commissioner expressed his immense gratitude towards the organization for sharing their insights and experiences which could help the Bureau in improving their services. “We’re partners,” Commissioner Tansingco said, highlighting BI’s intention to enhance its communication with private stakeholders.
Numerous topics were tackled during the meeting, and towards the end, CFBCI told the Commissioner its willingness to provide its 8th floor auditorium located in Sky 1 Tower, Binondo, Manila as potential venue for seminars and events organized by the Bureau of Immigration. CFBCI attendees then presented the CFBCI Official Seal and Coffee Table Book to the Commissioner as symbols of gratitude and optimism for future collaboration.
At 11:30 A.M. the meeting was adjourned and photos were taken.
菲華工商總會訊:本會副理事長、外交委員會督導楊良田,董事、青年企業家委員會主任杜祖蔭,法規委員會副主任柯偉順律師,商務委員會副主任洪海濱,公共資訊委員會副主任施惠萍,商務委員會理事佘玲玲,英文秘書梅西卡於三月二十六日(星期二)上午十時,前往菲律濱移民局禮訪,受到局長諾曼‧譚辛格(Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco)及幕僚長羅曼‧帕斯誇爾(Atty. Romain Pascual)等移民局官員的熱情歡迎及接待,雙方就推動移民局現代化等多項豐富議題交換意見。
局長譚辛格首先致詞歡迎本會領導同仁的到訪,並且分享移民局最新的發展,包括:擬議的新移民現代化法案進度及申請菲律濱居留權的外國人數量增加等。他也補充,新移民法通過後,將會比原本的一九四○年移民法更完整詳細,並且也會加快所有申請案件之辦理及減少官員貪腐案件。
副理事長楊良田則對譚辛格局長推動新移民法表示肯定與讚揚,並指出新移民法通過後除了會提高移民局的辦事效率外,還會提升菲律濱經濟發展。同時楊副理事長也向譚辛格局長表示菲華工商總會日後很樂意跟移民局合作,願意免費提供本會八樓禮堂給移民局舉辦研討會或活動之用。
本會其他出席的同仁亦提出建言和觀點,雙方互動熱絡。譚辛格局長最後表示感謝本會的到訪及領導同仁們所提供的建議,讓他們傾聽不同的聲音。日後將會繼續與本會保持密切聯繫,尋找合作項目。
