Chinese-Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) holds a seminar on Public Service for Pagharap sa Pangarap scholars 菲華工商總會為點亮未來受助生舉辦《何為正確服務》修養講座

The Chinese-Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) held a seminar on October 16, 2022 at the 8th floor auditorium for the 98 students of the “Pagharap sa Pangarap" program. Executive Vice President, Mr. Samuel Lee Uy, General Counselor, Mr. Richard Alviar, and the Board Member, Mrs. Linda Lao, attended the seminar. This was also the first Skills and Motivation Seminar (LSMS) of the school year, entitled “Serving Your Work and Community".

The speaker for October was Fernando V. Alarcon Jr., a 2017 graduate of CFBCI education program. He graduated from the University of the Philippines with a major in Philippine Literature and is currently the Dean of Student Affairs and Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Malabon University. Fernando V. Alarcon Jr.'s presentation was very informative and raised the moral awareness of the students. He began by giving a number of different service projects as a guide to choosing the right career, such as: paid service, purposeful service, respectful service, service regardless of gender preference, earned service, happy environment, prioritizing healthy service, practical service, understanding service, purposeful service, service with a mission and vision, pure and sincere service, quality service, academic service.

The speaker, who is an educator, said that the school teaches you theory, but the outside world will teach you practicality. This statement was echoed by most of the people in the audience. He said, “You can provide a service without receiving payment in return out of love, but you can't do it all the time. Service should be reciprocated, and that will be the driving force behind your actions. When you do what people expect of you, when you do your job, you should be paid for it. Before each service, you should think “What are you serving for? Because service with a purpose is successful service. Service is not just about doing work, it is also about your character and how you are perceived by people around you, it is also a kind of self-affirmation. If you serve or treat your own work with an attitude of not taking it seriously, how can you expect others to treat you well?”

“In addition, it is well known that professional knowledge leads to high positions. Because knowledge is essential for service delivery, you need to be aware of the skills you have and make the most of them to help you advance in your career,” he added. The topic changed, and the speaker said in a serious way: “Of course, goals and achievements are important, but it is even more important to maintain a good physical and mental health, because health is the capital of life. Therefore, proper rest and recuperation should be included in our life plan and is the most important one.”

In the latter part of the interactive session, the speaker asked: “If you want to start your own company one day, what kind of service do you want to do? What is your goal?” After some thinking, the participants actively interacted with the speaker and spoke enthusiastically, showing their creativity and understanding of what they had heard and learned.

The conclusion of the seminar: The right attitude of service can make the humble people become strong, and also can gain the trust and respect of others, giving people a sense of accomplishment; everything starts with a humble attitude of service, even the smallest people can do great things. Don't discriminate against any grassroots workers, their dedication is what we should learn from.

Finally, CFBCI officers took the stage and thanked the speaker for his good preparation of the topic, saying that the seminar had enlightened the participants. The October seminar was successfully concluded before noon.

菲華工商總會訊:本會於十月十六日(星期日)上午,假八樓禮堂為「點亮未來」助學方案的受助生舉辦修養講座,當天出席的學員有98位。本會執行副理事長黃書瑋,常務顧問曾煥眉和理事留牡丹出席輔導。這也是今學年的第一次技能和激勵研討會(LSMS),題目為:「為你的工作和社區服務」。

十月的主講人是由本會二零一七年畢業的受助生Fernando V. Alarcon Jr.擔任。他畢業於菲律濱師範大學,主修菲律濱文學系,現仼Malabon市大學藝術與科學學院學生事務主任和院長助理。目前在國家師範學院攻讀菲律濱教育文學碩士學位。Fernando V. Alarcon Jr.的演講內容提供了很多的信息量,提高了受助生們的道德觀。他首先給出了很多不同的服務項目,作為實現正確服務的指南,如:有償服務、有目的的服務、尊重的服務、不分性別偏好的服務、賺錢的服務、快樂的環境,優先考慮健康的服務、實際的服務、理解的服務、有目標的服務、有使命和願景的服務、純粹的真誠的服務、有品質的服務、學術的服務、全方位的服務和上帝賜予的服務等。

身為教育者的主講人表示,學校教你理論,外面的世界將教你實用性。這句話得到在場大多數人的同意。他說,「因為出於愛,你可以提供不付費的服務,但不能一直如此」。服務應該是要得到相對回應的,這也將成為你行為的動力。當你履行了人們對你的期望,做了你的工作後,你應該得到報酬。每次做服務前,你要先想一下「你是為了什麼而服務?」,因為有目的的服務才是成功的服務。無論從事何種職業,一旦投入服務,就要全心全意去做;服務不僅僅是做工作,它還涉及到你的人品和周圍的人對你的評價,它也是一種自我肯定。如果你用不認真的態度去服務或對待自己的工作,那你能期許別人怎麼對待你?

另外,眾所周知,專業的學識會讓人榮任高職。因為知識是提供服務所必需的基本條件,所以你要清楚認知自己所擁有的技能,並充分利用它們,借此幫助你提升職業上的地位。話題一轉,主講人語重心長的說到:當然,目標和成就很重要,但是保持身心的健康,更是至關重要,因為健康才是人生的本錢,軟弱的身體使我們力不從心,就算有遠大的理想,也將無法實現。所以適當的休養是應該被安排在人生的計劃中,而且是最重要的一項。

最後的互動時間,主講人提出:如果有一天你要自己開公司,你想要做什麼樣的服務?你的目標又是什麼?學員們在經過一番思考後,積極與講員互動,踴躍發言,展現出個人的創造力和對所聽所學的理解力。

此次講座的總結:正確的服務態度,能使卑微的人變強大,還能收獲別人的信任和尊重,讓人有成就感;凡事從謙卑的服務態度開始,再渺小的人也能做出大事業。不要歧視任何基層的工作者,他們的敬業精神才是值得我們學習的。

領導們最後上台致詞,感謝主講人用心良苦的籌備講題內容,表示這次講座為學員們打開了獨特的眼界,使他們受益良多,是富有成效的一天。十月的修養講座在中午前圓滿結束。
