On April 17, 2023, officers of the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. namely (L-R of Sec. Uy) Stephen Sia (President), Samuel Lee Uy (Executive Vice President), Gerald Chan (Director), Paul Yeung (Director), Willy Chua (Director), and Henry Tiu (Director) visited the main office of the Department of Information and Communications Technology to conduct a courtesy call to its Secretary, Hon. Ivan John Enrile Uy.
Also present in the courtesy call were DICT’s primary officials namely (R-L of Sec. Uy) Usec. Angelo Nuestro (Connectivity), Usec. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue (ICT Industry Development), Usec. David Almirol (E-Government), Asst. Sec. Edwin S. Ligot (E-Government), Director Amelia Dean (Regional Operations and Coordination Service), and Kyle Nuestro (Executive Assistant for the Office of Usec for Connectivity).
According to Usec. Nuestro, the Sim Registration Act will help to fight scammers who take advantage of the anonymity of telecom subscribers. Since its implementation, the number of spam messages received by individuals has been reduced. This Act promotes attribution or liability on crimes committed.
DICT tackled to CFBCI about its 3-month long training programs that teach individuals about relevant topics like digital marketing and cyber security. CFBCI looks forward to sponsor its scholars/members who are willing to learn under the DICT program. This training program will provide certification to successful completers who will enjoy high-value jobs in the future using their new digital skills.
According to Sec. Uy, the DICT is no longer in hibernation. It is now an active, skill-centric, government catalyst that aims to champion the upscaling of Filipinos’ employment potentials.
DICT also informed CFBCI about its entrepreneurial innovation project called “Hackathons" which aims to provide seed funding to digital startups in the country. DICT persuaded CFBCI to also become a sponsor of this project. ###
