On 09 July 2024, at 1:30p.m., the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI), led by President Samuel Lee Uy, conducted a courtesy meeting to the new Director of the National Bureau of Investigation, Judge Jaime Santiago, at the NBI Main Office in Quezon City. Also present in the meeting were Honorary President Stephen Tan Sia, Executive Vice President Gerald Uy Chan, Vice President Paul Yeung, Vice President Willy Chuakimtong, Director Gilbert Kua Yan Yee, Vice Chairman Ramon Uy, and Vice Chairman Peter Chua.
A retired judge and an excellent police-sniper, Director Santiago introduces a ‘new era’ at NBI since he assumed office three weeks ago. Decades ago, Director Santiago first worked as a contractual 'record checker' at the Bureau and was unable to become a regular employee. He proudly showed his ID photo back then to the officers of CFBCI while sharing his story. Years later, he returned to the same agency to fill in the highest position.
Director Santiago was also proud to share with CFBCI officers that the Bureau currently enjoys a good relationship with its fellow agencies. He also recognized the important role of non-government business organizations in catching criminals and serving justice to their poor victims. With the groundbreaking developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Director Santiago has warned CFBCI of the latest modus operandi of cybercriminals.
President Samuel Uy assured the Director that CFBCI will continue to collaborate with NBI to achieve its mission of safeguarding the nation’s digital infrastructure and protecting Filipinos from online crimes like hacking and phishing. Overall, it was a productive discussion and exchange of insights between the two parties. Director Santiago expressed the utmost eagerness of NBI to assist the organization in apprehending law violators especially those who propagate cases of economic sabotage in the country. In return, CFBCI joins the Bureau in its commitment to integrity, transparency, and innovation for a better Philippines.
