The Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) President Samuel Lee Uy, together with Executive Vice President Gerald Uy Chan, Vice Chairmen Henry Tiu, Ramon Cheng, and Ramon Uy participated in this year’s observance of Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day) in honor of the fallen Anti-Japanese Martyrs during the Second World War, held on 03 April 2024 at 8 o’clock in the morning at the Martyrs’ Hall of Manila Chinese Cemetery. The ceremony was organized by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association, Inc.
Wang Yue, Counselor and Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines; Li Jianzhong, Defense Attaché to the Philippines; Lu Shuiya, a 90-year-old veteran soldier of the overseas Chinese anti-Japanese guerrilla movement in the Philippines; leaders of numerous Chinese community organizations; representatives of local Chinese schools; and family members of anti-Japanese martyrs all attended the ceremony to cherish the heroism of the martyrs of the war. The attendees offered fresh flowers for the fallen heroes and bowed to pay respect for their great sacrifice.
After the commemoration ceremony, Mr. Zhou Zhiyong led the recollection of the glorious history of the Filipino-Chinese men who sacrificed their lives during World War II, emphasizing that the heroic deeds of the martyrs will never be forgotten by the people of China and the Philippines. He also encouraged the Filipino-Chinese community to continue propagating the heroic spirit of the martyrs and stories of Filipino-Chinese friendship.
In his speech, Lu Shuiya said that activities like this mean the world to the families of the martyrs, and that his heart was filled with tears as he was able to visit the tombs of more than 2,000 of his compatriots. He also said that the poems written in the blood of the martyrs shall always be remembered by the world, and hoped that the profound friendship between the Philippines and China cultivated during the resistance against the Japanese invaders will last forever and be passed on from generation to generation.
The discussion ended with the successful turnover of donation from the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines to the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association, Inc. for the renovation and maintenance of the Memorial Hall.
菲華工商總會訊:本會理事長黃書瑋偕同執行副理事長曾國強,常務理事謝文炳、顏漢龍、莊南文、許有福等人,於四月三日(星期三)上午八時應邀參加中國駐菲律濱大使館與菲律濱華僑善舉總會在馬尼拉華僑義山所共同舉辦的清明節祭奠菲華抗日殉難烈士活動。祭奠儀式由菲律濱華僑善舉總會董事長盧祖蔭擔任主席,中國駐菲律濱大使館臨時代辦周志勇主祭。中國駐菲律濱大使館參贊兼總領事王悅、國防武官李建中,菲律濱華僑抗日遊擊支隊(華支)老戰士呂水涯,華社各社團領導人,華校代表及抗日烈士家屬,均出席儀式,共同緬懷革命先烈犧牲的英勇事蹟,場面莊嚴隆重。
在華僑抗日烈士紀念堂的祭奠儀式完成後,周志勇代辦一行人,也到「菲律濱華僑抗日烈士紀念碑」及義山內的其它抗日紀念碑前獻花鞠躬,以表達對烈士們的崇高敬意。
祭奠結束後,周志勇代辦與各菲華社團代表進行座談時表示,回顧起第二次世界大戰期間菲華熱血男兒拋頭顱灑熱血的光榮歷史,表示烈士們的英雄事蹟歷史永遠不會被中菲兩國人民忘記,並勉勵廣大在菲華僑華人繼承弘揚革命先輩英雄精神,積極傳頌中菲友好的感人故事,為推動中菲關係健康穩定發展繼續貢獻力量。
九十多歲的菲律濱「華支」老戰士呂水涯致詞時則表示,清明節祭奠菲華抗日殉難烈士活動非常有意義,能夠前來看望兩千多位抗日烈士,心中澎湃起伏,熱淚盈眶。他也指出,抗日先輩用鮮血譜寫的詩篇將永遠被世人銘記,期盼菲中兩國在抵抗日本侵略者中培養起來的深厚友誼能夠萬古長青,代代相傳。
座談最後在周志勇代辦轉交中國駐菲律濱大使館所捐獻的「華僑抗日紀念館」修繕款予菲律濱華僑善舉總會圓滿結束。
