The symposium, co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Philippine Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, was successfully held on the morning of August 15 (Friday) at the Rizal Park Hotel in Manila. More than 200 participants attended, including Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, Association Council Chairman Huang Junren, leaders from over 50 Filipino-Chinese organizations, members of the media, and representatives from Chinese schools. Together, they gathered to honor history and uphold the spirit of the War of Resistance.

The event was presided over by Chairman Huang Junren, with Vice President and Secretary-General Dong Baicui serving as emcee. In his opening message, Chairman Huang highlighted that the War of Resistance Against Japan remains an enduring part of China’s historical memory. He also noted that overseas Chinese in the Philippines stood alongside the Filipino people during those years, leaving behind a moving legacy of patriotism on Philippine soil.

Ambassador Huang Xilian later delivered a keynote address, underscoring the significance of the Chinese people’s victory in the War of Resistance and its connection to the global fight against fascism. He also pointed out that this year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s liberation. Stressing that national reunification is an irreversible historical trend, he urged overseas Chinese to safeguard historical truth, strongly oppose separatist activities advocating “Taiwan independence,” and work collectively toward unification and national rejuvenation.

Leaders of overseas Chinese organizations and representatives from Chinese schools were also invited to share their thoughts. In his speech, Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) President Samuel Lee Uy recalled how, 80 years ago, the Chinese people fought side by side with the rest of the world against aggression. He highlighted that overseas Chinese in the Philippines, together with local residents, even formed an anti-Japanese guerrilla force, risking their lives in defense of peace and justice. He emphasized that the values of the War of Resistance — patriotism, solidarity, resilience, and sacrifice — remain a source of inspiration for future generations.

President Uy further stressed that as a vital part of the overseas Chinese community, there is a responsibility to meet the challenges of the times by firmly rejecting any attempt at “Taiwan independence,” supporting the full reunification of the motherland, and fostering peaceful development and integration across the Taiwan Strait. He also encouraged China and the Philippines to draw lessons from history, deepen cooperation in trade, education, and culture, and work together to preserve regional peace and stability.

“Remembering history is not about harboring hatred, but about guiding future generations,” he remarked. “Peace is hard-earned, and unity brings strength. By carrying forward the spirit of the War of Resistance, we can contribute to the reunification of the motherland, the rejuvenation of the nation, and the lasting friendship between the Philippines and China.”

Also present at the event were Honorary President Stephen Sia, Executive Vice President Gerald Uy Chan, Honorary Vice President Antonio Hilario, Vice Chairman Stella Lim, and Chinese Secretary Ellen Chong, who all bore witness to this momentous commemoration.

Alongside the symposium, a themed photo exhibition was mounted to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War. The exhibit drew participants to pause and reflect, creating an atmosphere that was both solemn and spirited.

座談會由菲律濱中國和平統一促進會會長黃俊人擔任大會主席，副會長兼秘書長董拔萃擔任司儀。黃俊人主席在開幕致詞中強調，抗日戰爭是中華民族不可忘卻的歷史記憶，華僑兒女在菲律濱土地上與菲人民生死與共，譜寫了感天動地的愛國篇章。

隨後，黃溪連大使在致詞中深入闡述中國人民抗戰及世界反法西斯戰爭勝利的重大意義，並指出今年同時是臺灣光復八十週年。他強調，中國統一是歷史大勢，海外華人華僑應堅定維護歷史真相，勇於反對「台獨」分裂行徑，為推動國家統一與民族復興凝聚力量。

會中也特別邀請僑團負責人及華校代表相繼上台發言。本會理事長黃書瑋應邀致詞時表示：八十年前，中華兒女與世界人民並肩抗擊侵略，菲律濱華僑與當地人民更是共同組建華僑抗日游擊支隊，以生命守護和平與正義。他強調，這份「愛國、團結、堅韌、奉獻」的抗戰精神，不僅屬於過去，更啟迪著後代。

黃理事長指出，作為海外華人社會的重要力量，我們應勇敢承擔時代使命，堅決反對任何形式的「台獨」分裂圖謀，支持祖國完全統一，推動兩岸和平發展與融合。他並呼籲菲中雙方以歷史為鑑，深化經貿、教育與文化交流，攜手守護區域和平與穩定。

「紀念歷史，不是為了延續仇恨，而是為了警醒未來。」黃理事長強調，和平來之不易，團結才有力量，唯有共同傳承抗戰精神，才能為祖國統一、民族復興與菲中友誼貢獻磅礡力量。

本會出席參與盛會的領導同仁尚有：名譽理事長謝國萬、執行副理事長曾國強、名譽副理事長許文忠，公共資訊委員會副主任施惠萍及中文秘書蔡艷霞，共同見證這一歷史性的紀念活動。
