To inspire today’s youth to blend modern technology with traditional culture, fostering holistic development in both mind and body, and to further promote chess as a meaningful extracurricular activity, the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) once again joins hands with the Eugene Torre Chess Foundation — founded by the legendary Filipino Grandmaster Eugene Torre — to host the CFBCI Chess Tournament 2025 for elementary, junior high, and senior high school students.
The tournament is open to students from public and Chinese schools nationwide. The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 8:00 AM at the CFBCI Auditorium, 8/F Sky 1 Tower, 68 Dasmariñas St., Binondo, Manila. Grandmaster Eugene Torre himself will grace the event, interact with participants, and share valuable chess insights.
This year’s tournament will follow a Grand Prix points system and will feature both team and individual awards. Matches will be played in a 15-minute rapid chess format over six rounds, with three divisions:
• Elementary Division (Grades 4–6)
• Junior High Division (Grades 7–9)
• Senior High Division (Grades 10–12)
Each school may enter up to three teams per division, with two to three players per team. Schools fielding a single player may still compete for individual awards. To promote fairness, schools are encouraged to nominate players across different grade levels. Substitutions are allowed only from lower grades within the same division (e.g., Grade 4 may be substituted by Grade 5), with a maximum of two substitutes per grade level.
A mandatory online briefing on competition guidelines will be held via Zoom on Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 AM. Each school must send at least one representative. To receive the meeting link, kindly email your name and contact number to cfbcph@yahoo.com.
On competition day, registration opens at 7:30 AM. All participants must wear their school sports uniform and student ID and remain at the venue throughout the event. Lunch and snacks will be provided for both players and coaches. The awards ceremony will take place at 4:00 PM, where winners will receive medals, trophies, and cash prizes. All participants will be awarded certificates of participation.
The registration deadline is Saturday, September 27, 2025. Schools must submit the following details to cfbcph@yahoo.com:
• School name (in both Chinese and English)
• Competition division(s)
• List of participating students (Chinese and English names, and grade levels)
• Name of coach

Since 2014, CFBCI has proudly hosted this annual chess tournament. Each year, participation has grown, with more schools and players joining and the event gaining widespread recognition. We warmly invite all Chinese schools to take part in this year’s tournament as we continue to nurture young minds, promote teamwork, and strengthen the bonds of Filipino-Chinese friendship.
