On June 15, 2025, the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) facilitated the monthly Life Skills and Motivational Seminar (LSMS) for its scholars, coinciding with the celebration of Father’s Day. Director Richard Alviar opened the morning with a heartfelt check-in, especially with the graduating scholars, offering not just encouragement but a reflection on their experiences. The program officially began with a solemn prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and a warm Father’s Day greeting led by the hosts — setting the stage for a meaningful day.
President Samuel Lee Uy’s serendipity session tackled corruption and its ‘ripple effect’ on education and public services, challenging scholars to uphold integrity and demand accountability from public servants. Scholars then reflected on topics such as discipline, values, and delayed gratification. With honesty and confidence, they spoke about personal growth, learning to choose the wiser path, and how awareness helps shape meaningful decisions not just academically but morally.
The day’s main talk, “Sexuality and Life Skills,” was led by Ms. Milagros Serrano Rivera, Executive Director of the Institute for Reproductive Health Philippines. She addressed the scholars with honesty and empathy, reminding them that adolescence comes with responsibilities and consequences. Exploring themes like identity, intimacy, and independence, she gave voice to silent struggles that many young people face. Through science and real-life data, she discussed fertility, peer pressure, and teenage pregnancy not to shame, but to inform and empower, emphasizing the need for clarity, care, and commitment in navigating relationships.
Ms. Rivera also clarified key concepts of sex, gender, and sexuality. She challenged the scholars to channel their natural energy into goals, service, and purpose. Love, she said, should be free, total, faithful, and fruitful which is built on dignity rather than desire. Her talk didn’t offer easy answers, but it gave the scholars tools to ask the right questions and pursue lives of awareness and virtue.
After deep reflection came joy as the scholars played a fun guessing game that filled the room with laughter, thanks to the continued generosity of Vice Chairman Linda Lao. The session closed with a prayer by Jamiya Dimaano, followed by a shared meal of beef caldereta and langka tart —a familiar CFBCI tradition that reminded everyone that learning doesn’t end with lectures. It lives on in the values embraced, the relationships nurtured, and the commitment to lead lives with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
