On 16 October 2024, at 1:30 p.m., the 1st Marine Brigade of Northern Maguindanao visited the head office of the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) for the official donation turnover of 200 five-gallon containers of drinking water for the benefit of coastal barangays in Datu Odin Sinsuat, a municipality in Maguindanao del Norte. On behalf of CFBCI, President Samuel Lee Uy, Honorary President Johnny Lee, and Vice President Henry Lo Lim facilitated the turnover ceremony.
Representing the brigade came four officers, namely: Cpt. Jayne Anne O. Din, MSgt. Christopher M. Morales, Cpl. Sammy A. Bacoog, and Cpl. Geraldine P. Advincula. Mr. Noel S. Gonzales, Founder of the Go Share organization, and Mr. Jimmy Cheng, owner of United Daily News publication, were also present during the turnover.
The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC), also known as the “Hukbong Kawal Pandagat ng Pilipinas,” is a naval infantry force under the command of the Philippine Navy. The PMC is responsible for amphibious, expeditionary, and special operations missions of the Navy including outreach projects to grassroots communities all over the country. In cooperation with the 1st Marine Brigade of Northern Maguindanao, CFBCI is aiming to channel 200 five-gallon containers of drinking water to the coastal barangays in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, courtesy of Vice Chairman Antonio Ng.
Datu Odin Sinsuat is a second class, coastal municipality and capital of the province of Maguindanao del Norte, where access to safe and clean drinking water can be difficult in some remote areas. Thus, CFBCI is very grateful for the assistance of the Marines in order to transport the water to disadvantaged areas which may take at least five hours of travel from Metro Manila. The residents can reuse the gallon containers which are made from sturdy and quality materials and has a tight cap to make sure there will be no leaks.
After the ceremonial turnover, everyone had a productive exchange of insights and potential projects through which further assistance can be extended to the citizens of Maguindanao. Mr. Noel Gonzales, Go Share Founder, talked plentifully about how this organization actively looks into how help can be distributed to those who really need it, especially in far-flung areas of the country. CFBCI is delighted to hear stories of compassion and kindness from Mr. Gonzales and is definitely looking forward to collaborating with the organization in the future.
As a gesture of gratitude, the 1st Marine Brigade of Northern Maguindanao led by Cpt. Jayne Anne O. Din presented jars of banana chips and coffee to CFBCI officers. These products were made by ‘women of war’ who are now adopting food production as a new source of livelihood. Everyone appreciated the gifts presented by the Marines and strongly supports this kind of initiative. In turn, CFBCI presented the CFBCI commemorative coffee table book to the Marines.
